New Linear LED Light Strip Modules Provide Cool, Bright Illumination.

TORRANCE, CA — July 19, 2001 — LEDtronics® announces LED Light Strip Modules that answer the demands for brilliant, focused, energy-efficient lighting for applications such as emergency lighting, showcase cabinet lighting and task lighting. In task light applications, LED Light Strips improve worker wellbeing, increase workplace productivity and optimize energy usage by putting light where it is needed – on an individual’s desk or work surface - as opposed to an overhead lighting fixture. LED Light Strips make excellent light sources for display cases. Cool operation, low power draw, wavelength-specific light output (no UV generation) and an extraordinary long life will appeal to museum curators, antiquarians and others responsible for the microclimates necessary for preservation.

LED Light Strips when configured with the optional Low-Voltage Disconnect Battery Protection Circuit can also play an integral role in emergency lighting and workplace safety. And with a power draw of just 0.525 mA - 0.7 mA, LED Light Strips run on 12-volt systems like solar-cell charged batteries. Advanced optical grade epoxy is used to produce illumination that is bright and uniform. Clear lenses are standard. Linear's LED Charge Pump Delivers 700mA of Current with 90%+ Efficiency

March 18, 2005 -- Linear Technology Corp announced the LTC3215, a fractional charge pump, high current white LED driver that delivers up to 700mA of LED current.

Its high efficiency multi-mode architecture automatically switches between 1x, 1.5x or 2x boost modes by monitoring the voltage across the LED current source and switching modes only when ILED dropout is detected. This enables the LTC3215 to maximize efficiency (up to 92%) throughout the entire Li-Ion operating range.

A 900kHz switching frequency and a low external parts count (two flying capacitors, two programming resistors and two bypass capacitors at VIN and CPO) provide a very tiny footprint and cost-effective solution, suited for video and Flash applications in camera phones and other portable lighting applications.

The LTC3215 employs built-in soft-start circuitry which prevents excessive inrush current during startup. An ultra-low dropout current source maintains accurate LED current as the input voltage approaches the LED forward voltage. The LTC3215 is available in a low profile (0.75mm), 3 x 3mm 10-lead DFN package.

The LTC3215EDD is available from in a DFN-10 package. Pricing starts at US$1.75 each for 1,000-piece quantities.

It is suitable for quality control inspection applications, including paper, web printing, nonwovens, metals, industrial fabrics and coatings, license plate reading, container and railroad car identification, and extruded film, foil, plastic and textiles. It is available in red, blue, white, green and IR, and comes in 20-in. segments that can be joined end-to-end without illumination gaps.

Lifetime is 100,000 h, and cross-directional uniformity is >10%. The light source can be used for direct or backlighting.
